It was a very interesting tale really, at the beginning I didn't think I understood all, but when you begin to progress more and more in the story and connecting all the dots together and see the change in the characters and all you begin to understand the kind of world they live in.The plot was super distopian a thing I love above all else and something I liked about this is that you can see it happening in a future, it's a plausible story in some manner and that gives it a lot of relevance.
The characters are like a rose on this one, specially Felix, he was closed but by the end of the plot he is blooming and doing the unthinkable and the change for him is gradually and fast at the same time since he has to adapt quickly to survive.
Astra character was so full of live and mysterious, but when you see the injustices in this world, you begin to feel a little bad for her, since she doesn't carry any guilt but is treated poorly just because of her gender.
I think the second installment will be as good at this one, so I can't wait to read it.

No Ordinary Star Volume 1 MC Frank 9781518681097 Books Reviews
Reading books set in the future never seem to hold my attention, but No Ordinary Star is no ordinary book. The beginning had me wondering if I was going to be able to follow the story or not. It didn't take long before I found myself unable to stop reading. The book just flows making it easy to read and the more you read the easier it is to picture everything happening.
The year is 2524. People no longer sleep, eat or think on their own. Instead the take pills to keep them awake, pills to give them everything they need for nourishment and are told what to do. The world has become the perfect place, sort of.
Felix was just another solider, with the exception of always being the best and never breaking any laws...so why does he end up in a place that he shouldn't be. And why hasn't he left yet? Felix finds himself breaking laws rapidly. From not going home to his first meeting with Astra. Will this "tin soldier" be able to understand the truth or will he give up and head home to face the consequences of his disappearing?
I liked this book quite a lot. While it wasn’t breathtaking enough for me to give it five stars, it was pretty unique and captivating. The story is set in the future, the year 2524 to be exact. The year 2525 is approaching and something important is about to happen. The story follows two teenagers, one a soldier, the other an escaped prisoner. Both are in hiding and both are alive because of an old clockmaker. The teenagers meet in the arctic where they are forced to work together and learn from each other in order to find out, what is so special about the year 2525.
FROM NOW ON THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!
This is a rather short book and a very quick read. Both main characters have interesting backstories, although I hope we would have learned more about Felix’s past. More specifically about [ how he ended up in the box and what happened to his parents. Maybe these things will be explained in the sequel. The setting is kind of dystopian but the story lacks the doom and gloom vibes that are often prevalent in YA dystopia. There are some dark parts in the story but overall it’s rather light. The story focuses more on the main characters’ efforts to survive in the arctic and to get along with each other than on the actions of an oppressive government or a military rebel group. I personally have nothing against dark dystopian stories but some readers may appreciate the lighter take on the genre.
I think my biggest issue with this book was the length. It’s only 150 pages long and I feel like it could have been longer. Now I felt like it ended a little abruptly, and I think the author could have written one longer book instead of a series of short ones. But that is just my opinion. Some people love to read short books.
For the readers who love animal characters, there is a polar bear in this story. I’m not quite sure what her purpose is, though, or why she seems to have a pretty special relationship with one of the main characters. Maybe she will have a bigger role in the sequel. Oh, and I should mention that the story has a bit of a Christmas/New Year theme. So if you’re looking for a holiday read, this one could be for you!
This was a really fun read! It took me a little bit to get into the story, but once I did I had a hard time putting it down! I'm always a sucker for a good dystopian story, so I knew No Ordinary Star would be right up my alley. And I'm so glad I read this book!
I think my biggest issue was world building. Especially in the beginning, I had a hard time understanding exactly what this world (or, universe) looked like. The action started pretty much right away - which I really did love. But, that also meant that there was no time to learn about this world and it's history before things began to pick up. So I felt like I had to play a little bit of catch up during the first few chapters. Once I began to understand things better, I was able to fully immerse myself in this world and the characters.
Speaking of characters, that's definitely where No Ordinary Star shines. I loved the development of Felix and Astra. They were both such strong characters in their own unique ways. The differences in their thought processes and beliefs made for such a fascinating contrast.
Overall, I had a great time reading this book. While I had a few issues, that didn't stop me from enjoying the story. If you like SciFi and dystopian stories, I would recommend you give No Ordinary Star a read!
