I saw the movie version first and I wanted to see if it was like the book it was based on. It was and it was sweet and sad at the same time. The book was not a disappointment. I enjoyed both immensely.
As usual... always fabulous entertainment... I smoke more since I quit biting my nails, and slug down more coffee to stay away until the last page, and it is ALWAYS ALWAYS... a sad moment when your book ends... Good Job Again!!!
I love Stephen King but this one fell short. I've read the story before so paying for it again, under a new title is b.s.. The way it's advertised is misleading. I'd love to be able to get my money back.
This is the novella that became a popular 1986 Rob Reiner film Stand By Me. It was written in 1982 and appeared in one of author Stephen King's short story collections. There are a few changes from the movie and a few scenes not showed. It's very evocative of growing up in the 1950s in America. It is not at all a horror story as is often connected with King.
This was my third reading of "The Body", over the years since Mr King first published it. One of my favorite reads of all time. It is a novella, (I guess that is what it is called) which I understand means longer than a short story and shorter than a novel. I am quite certain it will not be the last time I read it. If I ever have a chance to see the movie "Stand by Me", the movie which was made based on it, I will also watch it again. Great story from one of America's greatest story tellers ever. . .right up there with Mark Twain and Edgar Allen Poe.
